Questions
Can you play old Spelling Bee puzzles?
Not on the New York Times site — the puzzle is replaced at 3am Eastern and the previous one goes away. Every set published since this site started is kept here and playable.
How is the Spelling Bee scored?
Four-letter words score 1 point. Longer words score one point per letter. A pangram, which uses all seven letters, scores its length plus a seven-point bonus.
What counts as a valid word?
Four letters or more, using only the seven letters shown, and always including the centre letter. Letters may be reused as often as you like. Proper nouns and hyphenated words are excluded.
How many puzzles are here?
One for every day since the archive started, and one more each morning. Nothing is ever removed.
